Tancredo Announces Exploratory Committee Too

Not to be outdone by Barack Obama's announcement earlier in the day...I take that back. In a move that can't possibly be designed to outdo Barack Obama's announcement (pronouncement?) earlier in the day, Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo (CO), a staunch opponent of illegal immigration, has also announced the formation of a presidential exploratory committee (FYI: sources tell me presidential exploratory committee may be an early favorite for word of the year).

Barack Announces Forming Exploratory Committee

Well, the new Dem golden boy, Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), has announced the filing of papers for the formation of a presidential exploratory committee on his website today. He will announce the "findings" of the committee on Feb. 10. Don't expect anything other than an official announcement that he will be running for President. I think the world would be collectively shocked if he does not run at this point. And of course, if he chooses not to run, the happiest person on the face of the earth will be Hillary Rodham Clinton, followed closely by John Edwards.

Larry King Live! Surge Response...

To their credit (and perhaps, in response to my previous post?), '08 contenders Obama, Edwards, and McCain all appeared on Larry King tonight immediately after Bush's "Surge" speech. Predictably, Obama and Edwards came out fairly hard against the plan, while McCain strongly supported it. Edwards, in a somber tone, said - "The truth is we have no idea what is going to happen in Iraq." I just wonder if Hillary was asked to appear...

Reid & Pelosi "Anti-Surge" Letter to Bush

Newly minted Congressional leaders, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), have written a letter to President Bush urging him not to send in additional troops to Iraq, the so-called "Surge" strategy. It will be very interesting to see where the '08 hopefuls come out on this topic, and this letter, in particular. Who will be the first to support it? My guess would be John Edwards. What will be even more interesting is whether Hillary and Barack will even take part in this debate - especially when pushed by the press, which will no doubt happen in the next few weeks (Tim Russert - I'm talking to you, buddy).

CNN mistakenly says Obama - meant Osama!

Oh, Wolf, say it ain't so.

CNN mistakenly displayed the name Obama in a caption for a trailer of a story about Osama bin Laden. Is this a bad portent of future Republican strategy? Combs sure hopes not.
